Reverse Advent Gift Box

The Trussell Trust is reporting that they expect more people than ever through the doors of foodbanks this Christmas.  It's a difficult time of year for families living in poverty as fuel bills rise and children are home for school holidays and not getting free school meals.

So why not spread some Christmas joy with a present of a different sort this year and support your local foodbank by creating and gifting a reverse advent gift box?

Tackling Loneliness - One Group at a Time

The Government have published their new  strategy for tackling loneliness. Interested readers can read it at A connected society: A strategy for tackling loneliness.

The strategy discusses the negative impacts of loneliness which is being recognised as one of our most pressing health issues.  Loneliness affects people of all ages, with up to 18% of UK adults feeling lonely often or always.

Here at CommunitySpaceBook we see it as our mission to connect community groups and people which brings many community benefits but especially in reducing social isolation and loneliness for individuals.

Feeding Time

Wow well what a hot summer we've been having! What better time than now to fire up the barbecue and invite a few friends round for some food and drinks?

Sadly not everyone is so lucky so today we're going to spare a thought for those who need a little bit of help and the organisations who are helping to provide emergency food supplies to some of the most vulnerable in our society.

A recent article in The Guardian highlighted the plight of families struggling to feed their children during the summer holidays. The Trussell Trust said an increase in food bank use over the summer was driven by a rise in demand by children, as it released figures from its network of food banks across the country. The public are asked to donate to their local food bank during the summer holidays owing to increasing demand from families who rely on free school meals during term time.

Get in the Garden

This week (30 April - 6 May) is National Gardening Week. What better time than now on May Day to get outside and enjoy a garden?

On the National Gardening Week website there are some fantastic ideas for getting community organisations and charities involved this National Gardening Week, including:

  • Get your group together and transform or clean-up an unused or neglected space in your area (with permission)
  • If you have a garden or space, hold a garden party to celebrate the work you do. Invite your friends, neighbours and the community and show them how they can get involved

What is a Community Group Then?

So just what is a community group then?  Well in the context of CommunitySpaceBook (CSB for short) it's just a group of individuals who share a common interest or purpose.  A group can be any number of individuals and can exist in real space or just on-line.

They may also be a registered charity, but not necessarily as some groups will be quite informal, perhaps not handling money or donations for example.  CSB supports all types of community groups, whether they are formally registered as a charity or not.
